The beginning of the Summer means we’ll all be spending more time outdoors. However, it also means more sun exposure and the potential for sun damage. While you may think you are safe here in Ireland – seeing as we average out at about 3 days summer during the whole year, this could not be further from the truth. Most of us associate sun cream for face and body with being away on holidays. Generally to hotter climates and tropical destinations. Think about it this way….What rises every morning and sets every evening? THE SUN! This means you are subjected to suffering from sun damage 365 days a year, from the time the sun rises, to the time the sun sets. People ask us all the time – what is the number one anti – ageing product? Well that answer is simple. SPF! IMAGE Skincare have a great range of SPF’s ranging from SPF 30, all the way up to 50, with different textures and consistencies from hydrating, mattifying to tinted! But before you go deciding which SPF is best for you, let us tell you a little bit more of the effects of UVA and UVB damage.
What are UVA rays?
UVA rays penetrate deep into the dermis, the skin’s thickest layer. Unprotected exposure can lead to premature skin aging and wrinkling, a little something we like to call photo-aging. Overexposure to the sun can change the texture and weaken the elasticity of the skin. This leads to premature wrinkling and sagging of the skin. Up to 90% of the visible changes commonly attributed to ageing may be caused by sun exposure. We weren’t kidding when we told you SPF is the number one anti – ageing product.
What are UVB rays?
UVB rays will usually burn the superficial layers of your skin. It plays a key role in the development of skin cancer. Did you know that a tan is actually a scar and signifies damage caused to the skin? I know we all love a good sun – kissed tan, but if you want healthy skin, our advice to you is fake it! Fake tan is a much safer option to achieving a bronzed look. Keeping this in mind, IMAGE Skincare launches a sunless tanning product called Body Spa Face & Body Bronzing Creme. A perfect, non comedogenic face and body bronzer for all skin types.
Keep Your Pores Clear With the Right Cleanser
If you’re prone to breakouts, it’s important to use a cleanser than helps prevent those nasty pimples instead of trying to treat them after the fact. Pick a cleaners with salicylic acid to exfoliate your skin and clear those pores out before a breakout has the chance to sneak in.
Acne-fighting products can often make your skin dry and sensitive. It’s important to use a good daily oil – free moisturizer. We suggest using the IMAGE Skincare Prevention + Daily Matte Moisturizer. This product aslo contains an SPF of 32. Even better! Just be sure to use oil-free lotion to keep your skin clear of future pimples. We also love products with added benefits like antioxidants for a healthy glow and skin brighteners to reduce the redness of existing acne lesions.
Nourish Your Face
Did you know that diet accounts for 80% of your skin’s health? Keep this in mind when planning your meals. Adding fresh fruit and vegetables that are rich in vitamin A will help normalize the production of skin cells. Try adding more mango, kale and broccoli to your diet. Healthy fats from salmon, walnuts and eggs will also help keep your skin nourished, helping prevent future breakouts.
Cover Up Carefully
When choosing a foundation, it’s important to consider the ingredients. Oil-free liquid foundations are a great option for those prone to breakouts. Pick a foundation with skin-healing ingredients like our Bare Minerals range or our IMAGE Skincare IConceal.
With the hustle and bustle of every day life, it can be hard to find some peace and quiet. When we stress out, our cortisol hormone spike and along with it, oil production. Take time for yourself every season by going for a walk, having five minutes of silence in the car or taking a yoga class once a week.
