Repairing wrinkles and other signs of aging have certainly come a long way in the last twenty years. Years ago, the only way to gain a youthful appearance was to undergo a face lift or have some other kind of painful cosmetic surgery. Now, it’s as simple as having a substance injected into the tiniest of wrinkles and you can instantly gain a more youthful appearance without having invasive surgery and having to endure a long healing period. Dermal Fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a natural substance essential to the skin maintaining a youthful and refreshed look.
In Renaissance Clinic, we use Emerval, Perfectha and Restylane. These are the top 3 Hyularonic Acid Dermal Fillers and are all made from non-animal fats and need no pre-testing before use.
Hyaluronic acid is present in all living organisms including your skin and is what creates volume in the skin giving it a healthy appearance. The injections contain Hyaluronic acid which when injected lifts the skin before working with the body’s natural Hyaluronic acid to create volume in the skin.

A thread lift is a minimally invasive cosmetic enhancement technique that lifts sagging skin on the face and neck using surgical suture threads. A thread lift is not a substitute for a facelift but it does provide modest and subtle changes rather than dramatic results.
There is very little downtime, with no visible scar, these are the main advantages of this one hour procedure.
It is common to combine a thread lift with other non-invasive procedures such as anti-wrinkle injections, laser treatments and facial peels that help improve skin texture
Why Choose to have thread lifting?
People choose to have a thread lift to reduce signs of premature ageing, especially sagging skin on the face and neck.
You are a good candidate for the procedure if:
- You are in your 30s, 40s & early 50s. People of 55 and over can be candidates as long as their skin has not become too lax.
- You want to improve your looks by enhancing and highlighting features lost to premature ageing, improving sagging or loose skin on your face and neck.
- The changes you see in your face and not enough for a full face lift.
- You are not expecting dramatic changes, but subtle ones.
What to expect
- A thread lift is classified as a non-invasive treatment and the procedure takes around an hour to complete.
- The thread lift procedure involves making small incisions in key locations, most often along the hairline, and inserting a threaded needle under the skin to anchor both ends to lift and suspend the skin. The nurse/doctor assesses each patient and usually between 4 and 16 threads will be used.
- Thread lifting is a relatively new procedure and Renaissance is the first clinic in Ireland to perform this procedure. There may be some level of discomfort during the treatment. Swelling and bruising around the area is quite common after the procedure. This will gradually subside.
Before the procedure
Before the procedure and you will be asked to stop taking certain types of medications, such as aspirin, which can disrupt the healing process.
After the procedure
After the lift, threads take a few weeks to settle into place and integrate properly with the skin. You will be provided with postoperative instructions that you must follow to the letter to reduce the risk of complications during your period of recovery.
These may include:
- Limiting laughing for the first 24 hours following the procedure, allowing the skin to heal faster.
- Avoid chewing anything during the first 24 hours. You should stick to soft foods and liquids for as much as seven days.
- Keep your head elevated during the first day to reduce swelling.
- It will be safe to resume light activities within a couple of days. You can get back to all normal activities within a week.
- Try to avoid social situations in the first week. It is best if you can stay away from weddings, parties and other intense occasions for about three weeks.
- Avoid facial massages for about three weeks.
Great skincare for men doesn’t have to be wrought with expensive lotions and creams. Get the basics right though and you will have fewer breakouts, shaving will be easier, skin less irritated and inflamed with less ingrown hairs, and most importantly you can protect your skin and prevent premature aging.
So here’s our top five skincare tips for men, and if you or your other half would like more information call us on 018063200 or use our online booking form to book you free consultation and skin scanning.
1. Avoid Hot showers and use a good cleanser
Guilty of taking hot showers and using harsh soaps or face scrubs? Your skin will instantly become dry with this routine so try using a gentle cleanser that will remove the dirt and oil that can accumulate, and hydrate at the same time. Remember, if you don’t cleanse your skin on a daily basis; the excess grime and oil could also leave you with clogged pores and breakouts.
2.Prepare your skin for Shaving
Shave in the shower or immediately afterwords, as the facial hairs are much softer from the warm water and steam. Apply a light layer of foaming cleanser to keep the skin moist and warm and provide an extra barrier while shaving.
3.Soothe Skin post shave
The Ormedic Balancing Antioxidant serum is a soothing, post- shave hydrator. This product especially appeals to men because it’s lightweight and doesn’t leave the skin feeling sticky or greasy. As men tend to have oily skin, it will also help to balance out their oil production. This serum has very little scent, and only 2-4 drops are needed for the entire face and neck.
4.Moisturise Daily Skin care for most men starts and stops with a basic bar of soap or cleanser. Combine that with dry skin after a hot shower or rough shave and your skin will be crying out for some moisture.
A moisturiser will help to replenish your skin’s moisture content and will help prevent razor burn. Choose a moisturiser that contains SPF to help protect you from exposure to the sun’s damaging rays. Unprotected sun exposure can lead to pre-mature aging, fine lines, wrinkles and worst of all, skin cancer.
Protect your skin daily with an IMAGE daily skin moisturiser formulated for your skin type. For example, if like most men you have oily skin, choose the daily matte moisturiser which contains microsponge technology to absorb surface oils and leaves skin with a matte, shine-free finish.
Exfoliation removes the top layer of skin and unblocks your pores – for the uninitiated, this translates as fewer spots and ingrown hairs.
The total resurfacing masque can be used to help clear up blackheads, minimise the appearance of pores, dry up the occassional acne spot, and even lighten hyperpigmentation. If you shave in the morning use this product at night to prevent irritation and vice versa.
It’s that time of year again! Although you’re probably busy carving your pumpkin for Halloween we suggest you keep the leftovers as pumpkins are rich in important essential vitamins and nutrients necessary for healthy and radiant skin.
- Pumpkin contains antioxidant Vitamin A and Vitamin C to help soften and soothe the skin and boost collagen production to prevent the signs of ageing
- Pumpkin is packed with fruit enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), which increase cell turnover, to brighten and smooth the skin.
- Pumpkin seeds are high in essential fatty acids and Vitamin E, which are necessary to maintain good barrier function of the skin. They also regulate sebum, great for an oily skin.
- Zinc in pumpkin seeds is brilliant for acne sufferers. Zinc will help control the hormone level and oil production, as well as assist with healing of the skin.
- Zinc also protects your cell membranes, helps maintain collagen, and promotes skin renewal.
So enjoy your pumpkin and pumpkin seeds without counting calories, saturated fat or cholesterol while getting plenty of fibre, vitamins, nutrients and minerals!
Your skin will thank you for it
As a nation, we’ve become increasingly more aware of the importance of protecting our skin from the harmful rays of the sun. Not only are you putting yourself at a high risk of developing skin cancer, but exposure to both UVA and UVB also accounts for 90% of the symptoms of premature skin aging.
But how informed are you? It’s time to quash the most common sun protection myths to practice sun safety all year long.
FALSE. Everybody, regardless of race, ethnic origins and skin type is subject to the damaging effects of exposure to the sun. Even those who tan easily and rarely burn should use sunscreen as a suntan is a sign of skin damage, just like a sunburn.
SPF measures how much protection a sunscreen offers
FALSE. While SPF does stand for sun protection factor, it’s only a measure of the sunscreen’s level of protection against UVB rays, which typically cause sunburn. However, it does not take into consideration whether the sunscreen protects against UVA rays which penetrate deep into the skin and cause premature ageing. Look for sunscreen labeled Broad-Spectrum and contains ingredients such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide for UVA protection.
If it’s cold or cloudy outside, you don’t need sunscreen.
FALSE. According to the FDA, “Even on an overcast day, up to 80 percent of the sun’s UV rays can get through the clouds.” This misconception often leads to the most serious sunburns. Since UV rays can be reflected off of water, sand, snow, and concrete, you can get a sunburn in the shade or when skiing on a cold, winter day.
Once applied, I am protected for the day.
FALSE. Reapplication of sunscreen is just as important as putting it on in the first place, so reapply the same amount every two hours. Sunscreen should also be reapplied after swimming, excessive sweating, or towelling. However it is important to note that you should not rely solely on sunscreen to protect your skin against UV rays; it is just one vital part of a complete sun protection program. Skin care experts recommend using a combination of sun protection that include seeking shade, using sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, and wearing UV-blocking sunglasses, a hat, and clothing that protects exposed skin.
Wearing a t-shirt in the sun will protect you from burning
FALSE. While clothing provides some protection, a standard white t-shirt only has an SPF of about 7. If it’s wet, the SPF can go down as low as 3. The darker and thicker the clothing, the more protection it provides.
Its Ok to use last years sun screen bottle
FALSE. After a certain period of time sunscreen breaks down and becomes far less effective, and is unlikely to hold true to its SPF rating at the time. It’s best to store a sunscreen at room temperature and avoid exposure to extreme heat as this can cause the product to break down more easily.
Anti-aging products have come a long way from the days when effects were purely cosmetic, with products now containing ingredients clinically shown to help improve skin’s texture and elasticity. But with so much choice out there and so much to remember how do you choose what’s right for you? Well, we’re always here to help!
Below is a list of some of these ingredients which have proven effective in the fight against time, and better yet they can all be found in one skincare range; Image Skincare!
Active Anti-Aging Ingredients
Sunscreen is perhaps the most important and effective anti-aging ingredient to include in your daily skincare routine. When applied correctly, (thirty minutes before going out in to the sun and then every two hours) Sunscreen is your best defence against wrinkles, pigmentation, loss of firmness, and dullness. Select a moisturiser that offers broad spectrum UVA and UVB and an SPF 30 (or higher), such as Image Skincare Prevention+, which is not only a sun protection moisturiser but is also filled with stem cells, antioxidants, and botanical SPF boosters – even more anti-aging ingredients!
Retinol is an antioxidant compound derived from vitamin A, one of the body’s key nutrients, and works by neutralising the free radicals that damage skin cells and cause wrinkles. It is said to fix photo-aging, brown spots, acne, roughness, and collagen breakdown. Image Skincare’s Ageless Total Retinol A Creme is a concentrated blend of Retinol and Polypeptides to resurface, rejuvenate and repair aging and acne prone skin.
Vitamin C, with its pro-collagen and detoxifying properties, is a great anti-aging ingredient. It is also a powerful antioxidant—it enables cells to fight the free radicals responsible in particular for skin aging. It has been shown to increase collagen production, reduce the appearance of skin discolorations, strengthen skin’s barrier response, enhance skin’s repair process, reduce inflammation and help skin better withstand exposure to sunlight. Image Skincare Vital C is a range of products containing high concentrations of Vitamin C and range from cleansers to moisturisers and eye creams.
Hyaluronic acid has become a serious skincare staple. It has the ability to absorb up to 1000 times its own weight in water and is responsible for keeping your skin plump, smooth and supple. Research has shown that as a person ages, the hyaluronic acid content in the skin decreases, causing the skin to lose elasticity. However, when applied topically, hyaluronic acid forms an air permeable layer and penetrates into the dermis, thus boosting the elasticity and hydration of the skin. The highly concentrated Ageless Total Pure Hyaluronic Filler is also infused with an apricot essential oil and potent antioxidant Vitamin E for added effectiveness.
Peptides– Collagen, made up of long strands of amino acids, gives the skin its smooth, and youthful appearance. As we age, the long strands of amino acids in collagen break down creating small chains commonly referred to as peptides. The presence of these peptides signal to the skin that it has lost collagen and needs to produce more. Applying this topically from your skin care product has the same effect. Peptides can be found in many of the Image Skincare Range.
AHAs (Alpha hydroxy acids) , refer to a group of acids that are derived from fruit sugars and milk sugars, such as glycolic acid. The main benefit of an alpha hydroxy acid is its ability to exfoliate the skin. By effectively removing that top layer of skin, the alpha hydroxy acids serve to help new skin grow. Alpha hydroxy acids reduce the look of wrinkles, help to reduce the likelihood that wrinkles will develop, and can help skin that’s uneven and hyper pigmented become smoother and more even. Image Skincare’s highly effective anti aging skin care products utilize AHA blends, nutripeptides, retinols, lightening agents and anti-oxidants to produce ageless skin.
Green Tea antioxidant components work to reduce inflammation, build collagen and reduce cell damage by impeding the harmful effects of sun exposure and damaging free radicals.
